Get exclusive ruler kits and tutorials delivered straight to Birdsong Quilting. The HQ Ruler of the Month Club is a great opportunity to challenge your quilting skills and build ruler work confidence. Each month in the six-month series features a debut acrylic ruler (available to club members only). We will meet on the second Thursday of each month to view exclusive video tutorials and practice on one of the shop Handi Quilter machines. These rulers will work on your domestic sewing machines with the appropriate ruler foot for your specific brand of machine. We welcome all skill levels of participants. If you would like a private lesson on the basics of operating a long arm machine, machine maintenance and how to choose your thread we offer these separately. We also rent our long arm machines if you would like to practice using the machine and finish a quilt at the same time. When renting the machine you will have the option to do a free motion design or a computerized edge to edge design. The HQ Ruler club renews yearly in the early fall, and this will be our inaugural year. We will have time to finish debuting the 2019-2020 rulers before Handi Quilter rolls out the next collection of ROMC (Ruler of the Month Club). Over the course of the year we will also make time to work on other features of the long arm machine and pro-stitcher programs.

This quilt is BEAUTIFUL in every sense of the word. Linda McGibbon of Lakeview Quilting has designed the "TARA" Block of the Month program with fabrics from Nancy Gere for Windham Fabrics. This BOM is inspired from an actual quilt that has been handed down from one generation to the next in The McGibbon family household. Every block holds a special meaning near and dear to Linda and she has shared this pattern for a select few shops. We are proud to be teaching this class and it seemed fitting that our beloved Tara Gravitt be the one to teach this class. For those of you that know Tara Gravitt, she is a skilled quilter. She has experience instructing every level of quilter, from the novice to the most experienced quilter, and can teach most every quilting technique both machine and hand stitching. This class includes the pattern and the fabrics (from Windham Fabrics) to complete the quilt top, backing and binding are not included.

Cost: $ 30.00
In 2020 our Jelly Roll Club has collectively chosen to work on a Farm Girl Vintage Quilt. Our teacher will be instructing the class in making blocks from both of the Farm Girl Vintage books by Lori Holt.

This amazing quilt top features a center medallion with hourglass blocks and eight quarter compass blocks. The pattern uses a system of rulers and strip piecing - no paper piecing! The three compasses are qppliqued onto a large background. The choice of fabrics used in the class example gives the finished 90" x 95" quilt an heirloom look and feel. You can choose these fabrics or select your own to get a totally different look for your quilt. We will assist you with your fabric choices during the first class. Your materials include basic sewing supplies along with the following: pattern instruction (rulers are included with pattern), 24" x 61/2" ruler, 6 1/2" ruler, sewing machine with quarter inch foot, rotary cutter, freezer paper and pencil. (Optional: "angle ruler")

Cost: $ 150.00
We will be making projects from Carol Doak's book, "Easy Paper Pieced Miniatures". We will work on four projects, one each quarter. We have increased the size of each project so do not let the "miniature" description intimidate you. Paper piecing is a great technique to have in your "piecing toolbox" and can be mastered even by a confident beginner. You will be sewing on paper, on a marked line and therefore a consistent seam allowance is not a critical skill to have. Many quilts are made with a combination of techniques and often a paper pieced block can be a stunning center focus.
